SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Could putting out a fire be as simple as blasting a horn?

Researchers at George Mason University say it just might be.

Senior engineering students have developed a sonic fire extinguisher.

It lets out sound waves at a specific frequency that disrupts the oxidation at the core of a fire.

It basically separates the fuel source from the oxygen it needs to keep burning.
