Miss World pageant ending swimsuit competition

LONDON (KGO) -- The Miss World pageant will no longer feature the swimsuit competition.

A contestant from South Africa was crowned the 64th Miss World Winner in London last weekend and it was the final event featuring contestants wearing bikinis.

The pageant director said it's not just a beauty contest, it's beauty with a purpose, and there didn't seem to be a purpose to have the swimsuit event.

In recent years, Miss World emphasized charity and community work.
