Firefighters knock down 2-acre fire in Contra Costa County

MARTINEZ, Calif. (KGO) -- There's a warning on this Fourth of July holiday about how easily land can burn. Firefighters knocked down a fire in Contra Costa County overnight.

They got the call at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, which they say ended up being two small fires that merged together.

Crews put out the fire but they say it did burn two acres on Alhambra Valley Road near Bear Creek Road near Martinez.

The fire broke out in a big empty field with no homes nearby.

Officials are not sure what caused the fire but they had the weather in their favor - it's very cool, it's not windy and there's even a marine layer bringing some moisture to the area.
