HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- Police are classifying a body found today on a chiropractic college campus in Hayward as a homicide, police said.

Police said officers responded to a report of a possible burglary at the Life Chiropractic College West, located at 25001 Industrial Blvd., around 1:50 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found some damage to a window, apparently caused by a nearby U-Haul truck and white man in his 40's lying on the ground unresponsive.

Police said the man was declared deceased at the scene.

Sgt. Ryan Cantrell said police are investigating the death as a homicide and are trying to determine what role, if any, the victim had in the burglary.

In a statement on its website, college officials said all indicators show the body is not that of a student, staff or faculty member.

The school is closed while police investigate the scene, and school officials said the president of the college, along with senior leadership, is also at the school today.

The school is expected to reopen on Saturday.
