HOUSTON (KGO) -- The City of Houston issued a single mother of three a nearly $8,000 water bill for a water leak on her property back in May.

Omesha Mobley says now she's fed-up. Several months ago, Mobley said she came home from work to find water all over her yard. She said public works came out and repaired a leak and told her it was the city's responsibility.

"For that amount of money, I might as well pay for the whole neighborhood," she said. "If they came out and fixed it, they laid the gravel, they put the grass down, they fixed the pipe, they're responsible for it."

Houston public works claims there were two leaks that day, one on the city's side of the meter and one on Mobley's.

The city said they fixed her leak to prevent future water loss. Mobley said they never told her that.

The city has knocked $4,000 off the bill. Mobley is appealing the rest saying she can't afford it.
