Spiked baseball bat art tops weekend events in San Francisco

In November, San Francisco police found 44 bats with nails coming out of them, chained to polls around town. What does this have to do with art?

Matthew Bajda says he made those bats as an artistic statement about fear.

His art exhibit about the bats is on display now at the Growlery in The Haight.

If you'd prefer to make your own art, good news for fans of Flax. The art supply shop with a huge following closed its Market Street flagship to make way for new housing going up.

Now that project isn't happening until the fall, so Flax on Market will reopen for a few months.

We're told to expect major markdowns.

Finally, art for a great cause. Jo Jackson had never painted anything in her life until she wandered into the Hospitality House on Market Street.

The nonprofit provides art supplies, training and space to assist people who may be economically challenged, disabled or otherwise going through some stuff.

They're having an art auction on Friday night to benefit Hospitality House.

If you miss it, they put on shows throughout the year, where the artists themselves keep the proceeds as a way to support themselves.
