I-680 reopens in San Jose at Alum Rock after police activity shuts it down for hours

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Both directions of Interstate 680 in San Jose reopened late Monday night after police spent hours talking to a person who was threatening to jump over the freeway, police and California Highway Patrol officials said.

Northbound lanes reopened at about 8:40 p.m., however the southbound lanes were closed until after midnight.

The report of the pedestrian at the Alum Rock Avenue overcrossing came in around 2 p.m., CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

Officers spoke with a female pedestrian who is threatening to jump, according to San Jose police.

A Sig-alert closing both directions of Highway 680 at Alum Rock Avenue was issued at 2:48 p.m., CHP officials said.
