SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Police are concerned about the rising violence in San Jose following another homicide Thursday morning.

It took place just a block away from the popular hangout for kids, the two-story Chuck E Cheese's near Highway 101.

A tan colored mini-van crashed in front of the Social Security Administration building on Fontaine Road in San Jose just before 2:30 a.m.

When police arrived, they found a man, described as being in his 40s, in the driver's seat with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Officers canvassed the area for evidence and questioned people staying at two nearby motels.

Police told hotel guest Brian Murray to wake up and come out and talk with them. "And that's what I did," said Murray.

This is the fifth homicide in San Jose in just the past three weeks.

Because of increased violence in the city this summer, police started a new enforcement effort over the weekend. They are targeting several different areas with higher crime and gang activity.

But since then, two homicides have taken place, including this one.

"We have implemented a strategy to go ahead to provide additional resources in certain areas, hot spots in San Jose. We are definitely concerned, and we are addressing those issues," said Albert Morales with the San Jose police department.

So far, no arrests have been made. This is the 13th homicide of the year in San Jose.
