3 people rescued near Sherman Island in the Sacramento Delta

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Coast Guard, Sacramento County Sheriffs and California Highway Patrol combined search efforts to rescue three people that went missing Friday night and were found at approximately 7:37 a.m., Saturday morning near Rio Vista.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Rio Vista received a call Saturday morning from a local resident near Sherman Island stating that there was three people stranded on a sandbar.

The Sacramento County Sherriff's boat and CHP helicopter responded to the area, located the three individuals and brought them safely to Brannan Island State Park along with the Jet Ski.

Boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Rio Vista, Contra Costa Fire Department, Contra Costa Sherriff's Department and an air crew from Air Station San Francisco were also involved in the search.

All three people were reported to be in stable condition with no injuries.

"I cannot stress the importance of wearing life jackets whenever you go out on the water and personal awareness of the proximity to sunset," said Chief Petty Officer Jason Miller, officer in charge of Coast Guard Station Rio Vista.

"It is always recommended to have a device for signaling, such as a flashlight, but especially on a personal water craft since they do not have navigational lights. We also want to thank the Good Samaritan who notified us of the location of the stranded boaters, as well as the media outlets that quickly released information regarding the case that allowed the public to assist in finding them."
