LAFAYETTE, Calif. (KGO) -- A longtime East Bay psychologist trusted with children has been accused possessing child pornography.
Authorities raided two locations in Lafayette and Orinda where they say they found thousands of illegal images.
Kenneth Breslin, 68, is in custody after he was arrested at his home in Lafayette Wednesday. He has been a child psychologist for 30 years.
Lafayette neighbors woke to a police raid on a quiet street targeting the Breslin's home.
"And began a search of his electronic equipment, which yielded thousands of images of child pornography," said Darryl Holcombe, an inspector for the Contra Costa district attorney's office.
Breslin was arrested on the spot following an investigation by the Contra Costa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Neighbors said they were shocked.
"I think the crime is awful," said neighbor Morning Star Borzonio. "At least he's been apprehended."
Neighbors say Breslin rented a house and kept to himself.
"I don't know that any of us in the neighborhood knew anything about him," said another neighbor.
Police also raided Breslin's child psychology practice in Orinda and found more child porn images on computers, but no evidence that any of his patients were victimized..
"We don't have any info on that now, but of course that is part of our investigation, to insure that no child has been victimized here in Contra Costa County," Holcombe said.
No one answered the door at Breslin's home and he denied a request for a jailhouse interview.
