King Fire east of Sacramento threatens 500 homes
In between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe a fire threatens 500 homes near Pollock Pines and some have had to evacuate.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- Three Bay Area strike teams left late Monday to help fight the King Fire, as the fall fire season really begins to heat up.

There are 11 major wildfires that are burning around the state. CAL FIRE has 6,000 on the fire lines right now.

The most urgent fire may be the one, near Pollock Pines east of Sacramento, where 500 homes are threatened by flames. Firefighters launched a full-scale air attack as anxious residents looked on.

Despite the efforts of firefighters from the air and on the ground, the King Fire has grown considerably and burned dangerously close to dozens of homes.

So far, no structures have burned, but many residents are evacuated from their homes in and around Pollock Pines and to the north and east.
