SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The best female golfers in the world will be in San Francisco this weekend for the annual Swinging Skirts Tournament.

The LPGA event will take place at Lake Merced Golf Course. Golfers were at the course on Tuesday practicing for the event. Last year's champion Lydia Ko spoke about the unique challenge presented by this golf course.

"This is one of the toughest golf courses that we've played, even including the majors. Just seeing by the scores from last year, I know it's the first time we've come to this course, so I guess that makes it straight out of the bat a little tougher," Ko said.

Ko is currently the top-ranked female golfer in the world. Stanford graduate Michele Wei comes into the tournament hoping to get back on track. Wei hasn't placed in the top 10 in any event since last November. The first round of the tournament begins Thursday.
