LIVERMORE, Calif. (KGO) -- Livermore police say they don't have enough officers to check the homes of people on vacation this holiday season.

Instead, they say residents can sign up with their Vacation Check program.

The public service program uses volunteers to drive by the home and make a visual check of the property.

If the volunteer sees something suspicious, they'll call police. Volunteers will not pick up mail or newspapers.
