LONDON, England -- The Duke and the Duchess of Cambridge attended the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium for the first time last night.

William and Kate were greeted by numerous people attending the event, including members of the English-Irish boy band 'One Direction.'

Kate Middleton was simply glowing on the red carpet, looking elegant in a black lace Diane von Furstenberg gown that highlighted her growing baby bump.

Harry Styles, dressed in a leopard-print jacket, shook Kate's hand and later talked to reporters for Vanity Fair about meeting the approximately 16-weeks-pregnant Duchess.

"I said congratulations on the bump," Styles said, adding that she "didn't look bumpy."

Meanwhile, Liam Payne said that meeting the royal couple was "the most nervous I think I've ever been in my life." Bandmate Louis Tomlinson regretted not calling Kate "ma'am," recounting, "I said 'Hi. How are you? I'm Louis.'"

The Royal Variety Performance is held annually and is organised on behalf of the Entertainment Artistes' Benevolent Fund, of which Britain's Queen Elizabeth II is patron.
