EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. -- A man was killed in one of two shootings in East Palo Alto today, a police spokesman said.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1600 block of Michigan Avenue around 2:50 a.m., Sgt. Jeff Liu said.
Arriving officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds, he said.
One of the victims, 32-year-old East Palo Alto resident Fredrick Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene, Liu said.
A 26-year-old East Palo Alto man was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to Liu.
Later at about 1:10 p.m., officers responded to a Shotspotter activation in the 2500 block of Annapolis Avenue, about a block away from the first shooting, he said.
The victims in the afternoon shooting were not injured, Liu said.
A preliminary investigation indicated that a man walked up to the front of a residence and fired at the victims, according to Liu.
