Grand opening held for Maritime Safety and Security Center

RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- There was a lot of fanfare on for the official grand opening of the new Maritime Safety and Security Center.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday for the new training facility in Richmond. It will provide training for firefighting, hazardous materials situations and disaster preparation. The facility is part of the California State University Maritime Academy. As part of the event - a firefighting demonstration was held to show off the skills taught at the center.

Cal Maritime is the only facility of its kind in the region.
