Missing 80-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease found safe in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. -- An elderly woman who went missing in San Leandro on Tuesday was found safe in Oakland this morning, police said.



Peggy Chambers, 80, was reported missing by a family member who noticed around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday that she was missing from her apartment in the 14700 block of Washington Avenue, according to police.



Chambers suffers from Alzheimer's disease and police said she was not wearing shoes and did not have her purse or cellphone when she left her apartment.



San Leandro police Lt. Robert McManus said Chambers was found safe this morning and has been reunited with her family. No other details about when and where she was found were immediately available.
