Napa resident grateful quake damage wasn't worse

NAPA, Calif. (KGO) -- Even though his house sustained damage inside and out from Sunday's powerful earthquake, one Napa resident tells us he's grateful it wasn't worse.

Doug Thompson shared his experience during the 6.0 quake.

"I woke up because my wife was screaming and the bed was literally going back and forth across the bedroom floor," he said.

His home is not very far from the epicenter of the quake.

"Once it stopped, you could look out over the valley from our home and it actually looked like bombs were going off from all the transformers across the valley," he said."

He took video inside his home, showing broken plates and glasses strewn across the living room and kitchen floors. Thompson is unable to get into another room because so much debris had fallen and blocked the door.

Despite the damage, they're fortunate. They are able to stay in their home.

The only structural damage was a fallen fireplace outside. Thompson says he's grateful.

"Not that big of a deal, it was a little tough going to bed last night because of the aftershocks, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been, no one was hurt in the home, so we're probably pretty lucky," he said.
