HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- A California State East Bay graduate student has won a Grammy for his work on a reggae album, according to university officials.





Trumpet player Mario Silva, 36, received the Grammy for Best Reggae Album of the Year last night for his contribution to Morgan Heritage's "Strictly Roots."

Silva said in a statement, "I remember recording it and thinking, wow, this sounds pretty amazing."



According to university officials, Silva is earning his master's degree in jazz performance.
