Removal of fourth truss of old Bay Bridge span underway

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The removal of another truss of the old Bay Bridge eastern span is underway on Wednesday.

The 504-foot truss is the fourth of five. It's being lowered and will be taken to the Port of Oakland to be disassembled.

The work is expected to last through Thursday.

During the third truss removal in May, workers made an unexpected discovery of cormorant eggs.

Caltrans is working with a contractor to keep birds from nesting on the truss.
