Former San Francisco 49ers center, Super Bowl champion Fred Quillan dies at age 60

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Former San Francisco 49ers center Fred Quillan passed away on Monday, September 12 at the age of 60. A two-time Super Bowl champion, Quillan played all 10 seasons of his NFL career as a member of the 49ers from 1978-1987.




Quillan was originally selected by the 49ers in the seventh round (175th overall) of the 1978 NFL Draft. He appeared in 143 games (129 starts) in the regular season in addition to 11 (10 starts) career playoff games during his 10-year career in San Francisco.




Quillan was named to consecutive Pro Bowls in 1984 and 1985 and was a member of the 49ers Super Bowl champion teams in 1981 and 1984.



A Portland, Oregon native, Quillan attended the University of Oregon where he was named All-West Coast center as a junior in 1976.
