Stanford, UC Berkeley make list of 'Top 50 Smartest Colleges in America'

PALO Alto, Calif. (KGO) -- Stanford and UC Berkeley are earning top honors for their student brainpower.

Business Insider ranked the top 50 smartest colleges in America. Stanford came in at 12 and Cal at 42.

The ranking is based on SAT and ACT scores and how well schools prepare students for success.

The top spot went to the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, followed by the University of Chicago, Harvard University and Harvey Mudd College, a private liberal arts college in Southern California.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology rounded out the top 5.
