OAKLAND, Calif. -- Oakland police said today that a kidnapping case reported Monday night proved to be false.

Oakland police had issued an alert to other agencies in the area about the case, and the CHP's Golden Gate Division wrote a post on Facebook late Monday sharing the information about the reported kidnapping of a woman in her 20s by a 32-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Malibu, CHP Officer Jonathan Fransen said.

However, Oakland police wrote on Twitter at 12:47 a.m. today that there was "no merit" to the call.

The CHP removed the post about the kidnapping from their Facebook page after learning from Oakland police that the person who initially reported the kidnapping was without merit, Fransen said.
