Concord PD investigating whether shooting of 2 people was targeted

CONCORD, Calif. (KGO) -- Concord police are looking for the gunman who they say shot a man and a woman inside a home.

Residents in the new, quiet Centre Pointe subdivision say it was tough to sleep Wednesday night after gunfire shattered the quiet just before 10 p.m.

"I was kinda scared, wasn't sure if whoever did this was still in the neighborhood," resident Barbara Powell said.

Concord police say one, maybe two, men went inside a home on Bella Drive and opened fire.

A 29-year-old woman was shot in the arm and a 28-year-old man was shot in the head.

"That's very brazen, and I'm not sure at this time whether they forced their way into the house or if they were followed into the house," Concord PD Cpl. Christopher Blakely said.

They survived the attack and the men drove away in a pickup truck.

Police have ruled out gang activity but don't know the motive behind the attack. They say it looks like a targeted attack but it is still under investigation.

"We've waiting for our victims to come out of surgery and be able to talk to us and give us an interview about what actually happened, if this was actually a suspect that they know or if this was a targeted attack or it's just an unknown suspect who showed up at the house," Blakeley said.

Neighbors say the victims had recently moved into the home, which is tucked away on a little side street in a subdivision that labels itself as private property.

Some say they think the victims had to have been targeted. "I think it was an isolated incident, to be honest. Why it happened, not sure. They are very quiet, to be honest with you. It's kind of shocking," neighbor Alfred Powell said.

Police don't have much of a description of the suspects, just that they were3 in dark clothing and drove away in a pickup truck.

They will search the neighborhood in the hopes that there are surveillance cameras and that they were captured on video.
