SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A three-alarm fire that burned detached residential garages in San Jose Monday morning has been extinguished, a fire captain said.

Firefighters responded around 10:35 a.m. to the fire at a garage at 229 N. Ninth St. Fire Capt. Christopher Salcido said the garage was engulfed in flames and a second alarm was quickly called.

Because of the garage's close proximity to several cars and wood-framed Victorian-style homes, a third alarm was called, Salcido said. He said the blaze was extinguished sometime before noon.

The fire also damaged two adjacent garages but did not extend to any living spaces, Salcido said. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
