SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- As fans went into Levi's Stadium to watch the San Francisco 49ers play the Cowboys Sunday, one group took a knee, raised a fist and said a prayer in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick.

They gathered across the street, to support Kaepernick and his protest against black oppression. "We're here for his message and we're here in solidarity of his First Amendment right to free speech," activist Malik Brown said.

Members of Silcon Valley black community groups, churches, and advocacy groups came together to raise awareness about police shootings.

They held signs, with names of people killed. "We are here to advocate for ourselves because our voices matter and our lives matter," Brown said.

"The policies need to change, the discussion needs to change, we need to start talking more, we need to have some action," San Jose Association of Realists Shawneequa Badger said.

They praised Kaepernick for starting a national conversation.

At Sunday's game, once again, he and two teammates took a knee during the National Anthem and once again that decision got a strong reaction. "Everybody needs to understand where he's coming from," one man said.

"This is America baby, you should always stand for your National Anthem, always," one man said.

"I think the people who make a issue about the military, the flag and him protesting just are trying to avoid the real issues in society and we have some real issues," 49ers fan Orlando Mayes said.

Advocates hope to move these issues forward and come up with real solutions.
