OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A grand unveiling was held Tuesday afternoon to honor a man who dedicated himself to educating Oakland's youth.
ABC7 News was in West Oakland for the ribbon cutting of a new mural honoring former Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Marcus Foster.
A number of Oakland artists received the support of the school district and the nonprofit group Attitudinal Healing Connection to paint the mural and several others as well.
"Our organization has been in this community for 25 years," said lead artist Justin Metoyer Mullon. "You know, we're right up the street and transforming our environment into a healthier, happier, more loving space is what we're here to do."
Foster was schools superintendent in Oakland in the 1970s and really set the stage for so much of what transpired as that system grew rapidly over the next several decades.
