SamTrans bus strikes, kills pedestrian in Redwood City
A 70-year old woman has died after a crash involving a SamTrans bus in Redwood City this morning, residents express their concerns about the intersection.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- A SamTrans bus was involved in a fatal crash with a pedestrian in Redwood City on Thursday morning.

The crash occurred at 8:47 a.m. at James Avenue and El Camino Real.

The crash happened just feet away from Sequoia High School and was heading southbound, traveling its regular route from Daly City BART to Palo Alto transit center.

Mountain View police confirmed that a 70 year-old woman was hit and killed. The victim has not been identified.

Four people were on board the bus, and no one was injured. There is no word on the condition of the bus driver or if any charges are pending.

"I was on my way to school taking the 274 up and we got blocked right here, I couldn't see the accident itself but I saw the aftermath of it," George Silva a Bay Area resident said.

Jeff Schabowoski, a Mountain View resident explained there's a need for signal in the area, "We get a ton of congestion from parents picking up kids and there's no left-hand turn signal which is badly needed."

Police blocked the intersection all Thursday morning. One resident witnessed another close call, also at this intersection.

"I was ready to cross, car came close to me and wait a minute that's wrong." Anne Bougue said.

Silva said, "I would say to the district, 'SamTrans find a different way to merge into the mainstream traffic, it's just a hard place to maneuver especially during rush hour.'"
