PETALUMA, Calif. -- Power has been restored to an estimated 17,670 customers in the Petaluma area after a bird collided with PG&E equipment, a company spokesperson said.

Customers first lost power at 10:53 a.m., spokeswoman Karly Hernandez said.

PG&E uses flight diverters to reduce the chance of bird collisions.
