Memorial held for man killed while playing Pokemon Go in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Friends, family and classmates gathered Thursday to say goodbye to a popular baseball player who was shot and killed in San Francisco while playing Pokemon Go.

Calvin Riley, 20, was killed at Aquatic Park on Saturday.

Tearful members of a close community waited to attend the memorial service for Riley. "He was a genuinely caring person to people he didn't even know that well, so he defines the community," classmate Glenn McDonell said.

Calvin graduated from Serra High School last year.

A basketball teammate remembers try-outs freshman year. It was shirts versus skins and Riley dove onto the court, shirtless to make a play. "We used to joke that's why he made the team, cause he had more heart than a bunch of cocky freshman," classmate Peter Dorricott said.

Riley was playing baseball this summer, heading into his sophomore year at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton.

Police are still searching for the suspect. "My hope is that the individual or individuals responsible for this do the right thing and turn themselves in," US Park Police Cpt. Jerry Marshall said.

US Park Police are investigating the shooting.

Marshall attended the memorial service. "I know I told the father tonight that we're going to do everything in our power to bring these folks to justice," he said.

Police are following up on leads and asking the public to keep the tips coming.

The Riley family is grateful for the community's help and support. "We don't want this to be something that's on the news for a week and forgotten. we want justice for Calvin," John Kirby said.

Riley's funeral is Friday morning, and will be held at Saint Gregory's Church.
