Police in Oakland are investigating a series of stabbings, one fatal, that occurred Monday.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Police in Oakland are investigating a series of stabbings, one fatal, that occurred Monday.

Just before 7:30 p.m., a stabbing occurred at Cesar Chavez Park on 38th Avenue. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

A second victim was then located near 38th Avenue and San Leandro Street, police said.

While tending to that victim, another call came in reporting a third stabbing victim who had been found near the Fruitvale BART station.

According to police, two more stabbing victims were found near 39th Avenue and International Boulevard.

A suspect was located in the 1500 block of 39th Avenue at about 8 p.m. and police allegedly recovered a weapon.

Of the five victims, two were listed in stable condition and two in critical condition; the fifth person died at the scene.
