Person hit, killed by BART train at SF's Civic Center; station reopens

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A person died after being struck by a BART train on the tracks at the Civic Center station in San Francisco on Tuesday morning, a spokesperson for the transit agency said.

The collision was reported around 8:45 a.m. involving someone who went onto the tracks as a train approached and was struck, BART spokesperson Jim Allison said.

The Civic Center station closed for about an hour while crews responded to the collision. It reopened around 9:45 a.m. but trains were still using a single track to travel between the Embarcadero and 24th Street Mission stations in both directions until about 10:30 a.m. to get around the emergency response, Allison said.

As of shortly after 10:30 a.m., full service resumed at all San Francisco stations with residual delays, he said.

Allison said BART police do not suspect foul play in connection with the death. More details about the case were not immediately available.
