Video shows child's scary encounter with bison at Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park visitors had a close encounter with a bison, leading to a heart-stopping moment as the wild animal began chasing after a child.

Footage by Brittany Peteler shows a woman first walking past the bison, ignoring it as it slowly makes its way closer to a boarded path. She safely makes it to the other side.

As Peeler breathes a sigh of relief, another group with children begins to walk in the direction the bison, to the disbelief of Peeler and other witnesses.

Despite the imminent danger, the group continues towards the bison, before one of the children eventually breaks into a run and is briefly chased by the animal.

This comes just weeks after a man was attacked by a bison at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

According to park officials, "Bison have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal."

"They are unpredictable, can run three times faster than humans and will defend their space when threatened," the national park stated. "Wild animals can be aggressive when people do not respect their space. Visitors are responsible for staying at least 25 yards away from all large animals, including bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose and coyotes."
