Crews respond to 6-alarm building fire in Foster City; no injuries reported, authorities say

FOSTER CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- San Mateo County firefighters are battling a large building fire in Foster City that quickly escalated to a 6-alarm response on Sunday.

The fire was first reported around 2:30 p.m. at 815 Sea Spray Lane.

Multuple ambulances and firetrucks were dispatched to the scene of a multi-dwelling complex where firefighters were faced with a combination of flames, winds and hot weather.

Authorities say all residents, including their pets, were safely evacuated from the complex. Some residents reportedly had to be rescued from their windows on the third floor of the building.

No injuries were reported but two firefighters were transfered to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

At one point during the response, a firefighter called "mayday" when he lost sight of his partner while inside the building, but authorities say he was safely evacuated.

Smoke from the fire could be seen from as far as Oakland.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but some residents who spoke with ABC7 Eyewitness News say they believe the fire started on the first floor and worked its way up.
