Record breaking roller coaster opens in Illinois

ILLINOIS (KGO) -- A record breaking roller coaster opened Thursday at Six Flags Great America in Illinois.

The "Goliath" is the fastest, tallest and steepest coaster in the world.

It plunges 180 feet, then rockets through twists and turns at 72 miles per hour, at a nearly vertical 85 degree angle.

The company behind the planning and building used an innovative track system on the wooden coaster to give it a smoother ride.

Initial reviews indicate the coaster will live up to the hype, with one rider calling it a "great adrenaline rush."
