Fundraiser seeks to help SF girl with rare form of brain cancer

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A community is rallying behind a San Francisco girl, who was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive form of brain cancer, one in which no child diagnosed has ever survived into adulthood.

On Saturday, a musical fundraiser was held in San Francisco's Castro District 7-year-old Zamora Moon.

She's a student at Harvey Milk Elementary School where her mother, Marisa Martinez is a teacher.

Zamora has rare and inoperable brain tumors called GIPG.

In July, she was given just nine months to live.

The money raised will help pay for a medical trial in England.

Her mother hopes it could potentially save her life and help researchers learn more about this deadly form of cancer.

"The survival rate is zero percent. And my daughter has that. And many, many children in America and all over the world are afflicted by this. With no survival rate. And no, there's been no progress with any of the cancer research on this," said Martinez.

Mayor Ed Lee was there to support the family.

A Go-Fund-Me page has already raised more than $130,000 of its $150,000 goal.
