City officials, residents celebrate SF Giants win
San Francisco residents aren't the only ones excited about the Giants win against the Nats, the city's mayor and police chief are also celebrating the team's big win.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- No doubt San Francisco Giants' fans had sweet dreams Tuesday night, with the orange and black now one series away from a return trip to the World Series.

The Giants advance to the NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals, who eliminated the Dodgers. It will be a rematch of the 2012 NLCS which the Giants won in seven games.

The team popped champagne in the clubhouse Tuesday night for the third time in the past two weeks. Fans are no doubt feeling that way on the inside Wednesday, but are back at work. San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and SFPD Chief Greg Suhr are also at work, but found a minute to talk to ABC7 News about the big win.

Suhr, who was at an elementary school Wednesday morning, says the school-aged kids are next generation Giants fans. And he's been a fan since he was their age.

"I'm a lifelong Giants fan," he said. "And I thought it was terrific that the way they did it. We're such a grind it out, all kinds of heart team."

Fans leaving AT&T Park Tuesday were all kinds of loud.

"NLCS, bring on the Cards, what can we say, beat 'em before, we'll do it again!" said one fan.

"Go Giants," yelled another fan. "We're off to the next one, yeah!"

Mayor Lee is also a super fan and an elected official looking out for his city.

"Winning at home here, for this particular series, and to begin a longer series, it's great for our economy in San Francisco for sure," he said.

The Giants have now won seven postseason series in a row plus a wild card game since 2010.

Lee points out that World Series wins in 2010 and 2012 are a good sign for 2014.

"You know, the Giants, on an even numbered year, you always have to watch out for them," he said.

Lee says he does not have any bets going with St. Louis yet. But as per his wager with the Nationals, the San Francisco flag is flying high in DC Wednesday.
