SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The San Jose City Council voted 9-0 Tuesday to ban bicycle riding from city sidewalks.
Cyclists are now required to walk their bikes when using sidewalks, or ride in the adjacent street or designated bike lane.
This comes after more than a year of talks with seniors, cyclists and downtown businesses and a recommendation from city transportation officials.
The ban will not apply to police officers, children under 12, or those transporting children under 12.
