DANVILLE, Calif. -- A teen made a "credible" threat of violence against another student Tuesday afternoon at San Ramon Valley High School, prompting a school lockdown, according to Danville police.
Police said officers were dispatched at 11:19 a.m. to the high school at 501 Danville Blvd. after a school resource officer was informed of a threat against a student.
While police searched the campus for the student responsible for the threat, the San Ramon Valley Unified School District initiated a lockdown around 11:30 a.m. at the school.
The lockdown was lifted about 30 minutes later after the 16-year-old student, an Alamo resident, was located outside the campus, police said. No weapons were found in the teen's possession.
Police Chief Steve Simpkins said it's best to be cautious in these situations.
"We had reason to believe that the threat against the student was credible enough to warrant the district placing the school on lockdown," Simpkins said in a statement.
"We appreciate the patience and support of the community as we resolved this situation as safely and quickly as possible," he said.
