You know the controversy -- the 49ers quarterback first sat then knelt during the national anthem before games in what he says is a protest of police brutality.

This mural is on the side of a building at 15th and Mission in San Francisco, a neighborhood known for its murals. Kaepernick is kneeling with San Francisco and the Bay behind him as backdrop.

Someone painted it over an existing mural showing trees. That mural was actually commissioned by the building's new tenant, Amy Kozlowski.

Tuesday, she told ABC7 News she likes the unauthorized Kaepernick image though not everyone does.

"I appreciate peaceful protest, and I think art is a fantastic way for people to express themselves," she said.

"I don't go for that," said George Morales. "I'm a Vietnam vet. I think you should respect the flag and respect your country.

Another mural supporting Kaepernick went up in Oakland about three weeks ago at 22nd street and Telegraph Avenue. The mural's message is, "We got your back."

As for the new mural in the Mission, all we know about the artist is that his signature is possibly, "Dino."

Dino emailed ABC7 and praised Kaepernick saying he's, "proud of his protest against against police brutality. His stance on the issue is revolutionary and revealing about our broken, racist and unjust system in this country."
