Service held for young San Jose woman hit by speeding cars

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Family and friends of a young woman killed by two speeding cars gathered Friday evening for a vigil in her memory.

They gathered at the Sikh Gurdwara San Jose for a memorial service that began at 5:30 p.m. Inside, more than 125 people paid their respects to 24-year-old Kiran Pabla, the jogger killed Monday when two cars crashed at high speed and ran into her.

The solemn service was meant to mourn the death of the young woman. A large photo of her was placed near the front of the room as men sat on one side, women on the other.

Earlier on Friday, many of them also attended the funeral service in Hayward for Pabla.

We asked a Sikh Gurdwara leader about the significance of this service. He said it is, of course, similar to services for other religious services for the recently passed, but they also realize that this is a time for healing.

Bob Dhillon, the general secretary of Sikh Gurdwara Sahib, said, "It is also a healing process for the family... and those who are affected, those who don't have any relationship, even they need healing."

They also said they have forgiveness in their hearts

The religious leaders are hoping to send a message home with each and every person who gathered on Friday. The hope is that people will be more mindful of each other and to be responsible for the actions that they take -- actions such as slowing down when you're driving and to be conscious of other people's safety.
