49ers Colin Kaepernick gives pep talk to Oakland high school football team

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A group of Oakland high school football players had a little extra inspiration before Friday night's game.

Colin Kaepernick gave a pep talk to the players from Castlemont High School.

"I had to come support y'all because the same way y'all took a stand and stood with me, I had to come out here and stand with y'all," Kaepernick said.

The kids were inspired by Kaepernick's protest during the national anthem and decided they wanted to join him in demonstrating against racial injustice in America.

Last night they laid on the ground with their hands up. Kaepernick can be seen kneeling behind the players on the upper left.

"Man, it was moving, we learned a lot about him and he learned a lot about us. He's going to continue supporting us and we're going to continue supporting him," said Castlemont High School football head coach Edward Washington.

The team's head coach says the San Francisco 49ers quarterback reached out to him after he heard what they were doing.
