SANIBEL, Fla. -- "You're going to need a bigger boat." This fisherman made the catch of a lifetime: a 550-pound bottom fish so monstrous, it snapped the fishing rod like a twig. Watch below.
Fisherman Jon Black of Cape Coral, Fla. squealed in both delight and fear as he caught the Atlantic goliath grouper while fishing from a kayak in Sanibel on May 26.
But, the massive fish refused to be reeled in. The grouper easily broke the rod under its tremendous girth, robbing Black of what would have been a prized trophy.
This fish measured at 83 inches long and over 73 inches in girth, putting the estimated weight at 552 pounds.
