San Mateo ice rink owners urged to keep facility open

SAN MATEO, Calif. (KGO) -- The skating rink at the Bridgepointe Ice Center in San Mateo may be re-opening soon.

Members of the San Mateo Planning Commission are urging the owners of shopping center where the rink is located to open the doors.

The ice center was closed last year with the purpose of creating more retail space. Shopping center owners say they need to stay competitive with nearby Hillsdale and Stanford shopping centers.

Commissioners counter restaurants and shops at Bridgepointe shopping center have probably lost revenue because of the ice rink's closure.
