Police say man followed Stanford student into dorm, exposed himself

STANFORD, Calif. (KGO) -- Just before midnight Tuesday, a Stanford student said a man followed her into her campus residence hall, exposed himself in a common area and then took off. It's an unsettling crime, Stanford police tell ABC7 News they're actively investigating.

Junior Leila Chew was rattled when she got the campus alert. "I would be worried about, you know, the man's intentions," she said. "Worried about how he got into the dorm, worried about, just like kind of shocked and scared."

Police say the man is in his 30s. He's 5 feet, 10 inches, heavy set with dark hair. He does not match the description of the man accused of groping two women who were jogging on Escondido Road on campus April 7.

That man was described as short and bald.

"I don't run at night because of that," said student Victoria Gonzalez. "It's either biking, or you're with someone."

For the most part, students said they feel safe on campus, but with each of these incidents, they know they can always be more careful.

"It's kinda hard because we're constantly getting these emails about different sexual assaults and other problems on campus, so it makes you kind of nervous," said another student Maria Yang.

Stanford police are reminding students to never let a stranger into campus housing, to travel in pairs or groups, or to call for a free safety escort.
