STEM STARS Summer Camp helping disadvantaged youth in Redwood City

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (KGO) -- Black and Latino youth across the Bay Area are learning about robotics, coding, engineering, leadership and more through the STEM STARS Summer Camp program in Redwood City.

The camp is being held August 3, 2016 through August 10, 2016.

The free summer camp is for boys and girls in the sixth through 12th grades, and is a way for young students to think about and be inspired by careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, says Founder Kiwoba Allaire.

The summer camp is focusing on offering more in STEM subjects because program officials think it's important to expose young people to those fields at an early age.

The summer camp begins at 12 p.m. every Wednesday, with graduation on August 10 and includes free lunch for the pre-registered students.

The camp will focus on introduction to robotics, Java Script coding and electronics with inspirational leadership presentations from prominent and influential keynote speakers, such as Councilwoman Alicia Aguirre, NASA's Jendai Robison, Maker Faire's Sherry Huss, 49ers Legend Ronnie Lott, Silicon Valley Tech Icon Ken Coleman, and many more.
