Astronaut aboard ISS shares stunning video of electrical storm on earth

Here's an electrical storm that's truly out of this world.

British astronaut Tim Peake, who is currently serving aboard the International Space Station, tweeted footage of an electrical storm on earth on Feb. 9. Flashes of light can be seen in the stunning time-lapse video as the ISS passed from North Africa over Turkey towards Russia.

Since arriving at the ISS in Dec. 2015, Peake has regularly shared incredible photos and video of the earth as seen from outer space. Peake is also known for giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse on how astronauts do not-so-simple tasks like preparing coffee or showering in space.

Peake is serving aboard the International Space Station as part of the European Space Agency's Principia mission, where Peake will conduct more than 30 experiments for the agency, according to the ESA. The mission was named after Isaac Newton's "Naturalis Principia Mathematica," an influential text on physics.

"I am delighted with this name that honours one of Britain's most famous scientists," Peake said. "I hope it will also encourage people to observe the world as if for the first time - just as Isaac Newton did."

Peake is scheduled to return to earth on June 5, 2016.
