Memorial held at Fremont church for Isla Vista victim

FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- Family and friends gathered on Sunday to remember a Bay Area native who was killed in a deadly rampage in Isla Vista last week.

Twenty-year-old David Wang graduated from Fremont Christian School. He was in his sophomore year at UC Santa Barbara when he died.

Wang's parents and schoolmates took to the podium at Harbor Light Church to honor the bright young man they lost.

The memorial was an opportunity for friends and extended family to pay respects to the 20-year-old.

Up until last week, Wang was looking forward to returning to Fremont for the summer to spend time back home.

One of the first to speak to the audience was Wang's mother, Jane Liu.

"I'm missing you," she said. "Your arms around my neck, my shoulder, holding my hands, hugging me, loving me."

Wang had made plans to move out of the Capri Apartments in Isla Vista. He and his friend, 20-year-old James Cheng-Yuan Hong, shared the unit with Elliot Rodger.

Santa Barbara sheriff's investigators say Rodger murdered Wang, Hong, and their 19-year-old friend George Chen, by stabbing them to death. He then went on a killing spree on the streets of Isla Vista, shooting three more students to death and injuring 13 others.

It was Wang's mother who said her son had planned on moving out of the apartment at the end the semester and moving in with his friends at the beginning of next semester.
