SAN FRANCISCO -- Ten million dollars has now been approved to design a bike and pedestrian walkway on part of the Bay Bridge. But that's not enough to build it.

KGO Radio reports the Bay Area Toll Authority will get that money for the path on the western span of the Bay Bridge. The total cost to actually build it is estimated at $400 million dollars.

The two mile path would run from San Francisco to Yerba Buena.

A bike path on the east side of the Bay Bridge will be finished by next Labor Day. Cycling advocates say they want a path that spans the entire bridge, not just half.

The Bay Bridge opened to the public 78 years ago today.
