OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- California Secretary of State Alex Padilla spoke at a citizenship ceremony for some 1,200 newly-made United States citizens in Oakland on Monday.

The ceremony took place at the Paramount Theatre.

"Just as important as it is to celebrate the special moment in their life, I'd also like to remind everybody that, now that they're citizens, they're eligible to register to vote. And the importance of registering and voting this November and at every election," Padilla said.
